About

OATS Holiday Groups provide a calm, supportive space for children and young people to spend time outdoors, connect with animals, and grow in confidence during the school holidays.

We bring together animal-assisted activities, nature-based experiences, and gentle opportunities for self-learning and self-discovery to support emotional wellbeing. Sessions are carefully structured but flexible, allowing children to engage in ways that feel safe and manageable for them.

Parents and children often tell us that our Holiday Groups are the first time they have felt accepted for who they are, without pressure to fit in or perform. Many children attend feeling unsure or anxious, and over time begin to take small but meaningful steps — joining a group, trying a new activity, or speaking up — in a way that feels right for them.

By creating an environment that values emotional safety, choice and connection, children are supported to step gently outside their comfort zone, build trusting relationships, and develop skills that support their mental health and wellbeing long after the holidays end.

Who is this for?

Our Inclusive Therapeutic Holiday Group is designed for young people between the ages of 7 - 16 years old, who present with any of the following:

  • Anxiety/Low Self-Confidence

  • Autism / ADHD / Neurodivergence

  • Social Communication Challenges

  • School Phobia / Avoidance

  • Mild Learning Difficulties

  • Mild to Moderate Mental Health Needs

  • Other developmental disorders or needs that affects their ability to participate in daily activities

Please note you do not need a diagnosis to join the group.

With a maximum of 12 young people, our groups are designed to be small, which ensures we are able to meet everyone's needs and tailor activities to be individualised and effective.

As well as being run by specialist, highly experienced Occupational Therapists, we are supported by a wonderful team of Occupational Therapy University Students, who bring a wealth of innovative ideas and activities, alongside a passion and dedication to work with our young people.

At OATS Therapeutic Holiday Group, we aim to:

  • Build emotional-regulation and self-regulation strategies

  • Develop positive social connections within a special interest community

  • Learn positive self-talk and mindfulness tools

  • Increase self-esteem and self-confidence

  • Develop self-acceptance and self-love

  • With many more skills being targeted along the way

Due to the nature of our activities and our rural environment, we are unfortunately unable to support anyone who:
